The Wisdom of Badger

Bear guided me to Badger who was feverishly digging around and into an old tree stump. His pace was frantic and whatever it was that he was looking for, he would not give up. Back and forth he went, digging at the base and then to the top. I was exhausted watching him. Finally, Badger pulled out from the old, brittle stump a very, very large insect. He calmed down, sat on the tree and began to eat the oversized bug, it’s shell crunching and popping in Badger’s mouth. "This insect is the truth," Badger said to me. "And I will no stop until I dig it up. So many times you humans bury the truth deep within you, covering it with guilt and blame and anger. You cover it with so much stuff, you can never get to it. Put on our claws for a while, that will help! Afraid of your anger, you say... Look to us Badgers to learn how to use it. We have a ferocious reputation. Anger is a powerful force and when not expressed can turn destructive. We can help."

I asked Badger about the woman and the child within the symbol. "We’re storytellers." Badger said. "All that digging we do, we get to hear a lot of stories from the Earth. We listen to the stones and the stories they hold." I asked if someone with Badger medicine would be good storytellers then and Badger replied, "Absolutely. Badger people are
great storytellers and healers and investigators. They are on the side of truth and will fight continously to defend it. If we come to you today, perhaps we are asking youto perservere and not give up, to keep digging, you will eventually get the answers you are looking for. Perhaps we are asking you to let go of your anger. Perhaps we are asking if you are being too aggresive with a particualr situation or person. Perhaps we are asking you to ground yourself and listen to the stories inside the Earth."
