The Wisdom of Owl

My guide led me down a long tunnel. The smell of deep earth penetrated my nostrils. The tunnel opened up into a mystical forest. The veil of night was upon us and the stars shown like pearls in the midnight sky. Owl came silently out of nowhere, snatched me up and took me high onto a large branch. We sat silently enjoying the stillness of the night.

Owl looked at me and transformed into an owl-man. He looked very wise; professor-like, wearing glasses with tufts of gray hair shooting out from the sides of his head. He held in his lap a large, leather-bound book and upon opening it, I saw that it was a book of magick. Owl was very excited, saying, "Oh, there is so much to know. The Earth is magick, life is magick and the night holds the secrets. I can guide those who are called to know them." He handed me the book. I looked through its pages and saw images of plants, herbs, elements, lunar cycles and so much more. I did not recognize the language that it was written in, though it felt ancient to me. So old that perhaps only the stones and the trees could read it.

A light flashed and then a beautiful woman was before us, floating on the night breeze. She was wrapped in blue light and spoke to us. "Come with me", she said.

Owl and I moved down the tree and the woman guided us to the gnarled roots of a fallen giant of another tree. There was a doorway within it and one by one we all walked through. Inside was a stone vessel holding a small pool of liquid that was illuminated by the moon. The woman dipped a crystal goblet into the pool and handed it to me to drink.

As she did, moonlight flashed upon her face transforming it into a skull. This startled me but Owl assured me, "Do not fear", he said. "I am a keeper of death and its secrets. Drink". I thought of how in many cultures the appearance of owl was an omen of death.

As I drank, a strange feeling came over my body and I felt myself being carried by Owl in the night sky. I experienced such a feeling of peace, followed by a feeling of absolute nothingness. I completely lost all sense of time and the awareness of myself and being in the journey. I cannot say how long I was in this state. It was complete stillness.

When I came back into awareness of myself, I saw a door in front of me. I pushed it open and stepped forward back into the forest. My guide was waiting there for me. I turned around to look at the door and saw that it was a coffin leaning up against a tree. Owl was perched on top of it. I thanked him for the experience and bid him farerwell. My guide then led me back up the tunnel and out of the vision.
