The Wisdom of Skunk

Upon asking Bear to guide me to meet with Skunk, I did not understand the visuals I received. There were images of people spinning around and around on carousels. I wasn’t sure what she was telling me. Then Skunk brushed by my side and led into a different space. "How about this," she said, and started spinning around and around in a circle. Her stripes became blurred and a large building started to rise out of the center, turning into a large skyscraper.

"Stories," Skunk said. "Like a building, you are made of stories. You build your bodies out of these stories. My stripes look like your roads, no? You take your roads from place to place visiting these stories." It all started to make sense and was a clever metaphor... people spinning around in their lives living the same old stories. Skunk then began to jump up at me, biting my side. I did not understand. She climbed on my neck and head and began biting there as well. "I can see the stories within you that don’t belong to you. Are you living your life based on what other people say you are? My medicine teaches you of reputation, of self-respect. We skunks certainly have a reputation, don’t we?"

Skunk continued to bite around me and actually shot out some spray. "You can work with us in this way. We can chew away the stories that are not yours and spray the person where they came from. It sets up a form of psychic protection. I assure you, the person will change their minds as to how they perceive you." I laughed as I had no idea we could work with Skunk in this way. "One more thing," she said. "Believe is a funny word... you can either be a lie or, if you take out the loop, you can be live!" She then actually showed me images of Peppy La Pu. "Remember, we have quite a reputation, but we are all about the love."

Wanishi, Skunk.
