The Wisdom of Squirrel

Squirrel brought me into his tree and we had a conversation. He pointed out
the tree as the symbol for life itself; sustaining so many lives, producing
fruit for all to partake of. Squirrel gathers from the tree for himself, while
he does this, he speaks to me of our practice of gathering for ourselves.
"Take what you need" he says. "If you have more than what you need, share."
His words were very simple and direct. He told me how he enjoys giving
back to the Earth and planting new trees for all to enjoy. "I am an
opportunist. If you see me in your birdfeeder and think I am being selfish,
I am not. I am simply taking advantage of an opportunity. I can teach
you to come into balance with this energy within yourselves."

Squirrel continued to speak of storing food. "Sometimes storing can be fear-based",
he said, "going into ideas that we will run out". There is great imbalance here.
It leads to harmful practices that hurt the Earth and fellow animal beings.
Chemicals and preservatives in food can be harmful to you and the planet. Moving
into more natural ways of storing food will benefit all." Squirrel continued, "What
matters most is sharing, though. Not just food, but yourselves as well. When you do
this, you see that you are more alike than you thought. When you realize that you
are no better or worse, but in equality with all beings on the planet,
there will be no need for hoarding and selfishness. The Earth is your
playground," he finally said as he scampered off through the branches.
"Have fun with her. She provides for all."

If Squirrel has come you today ask yourself:
Are you taking advantage of opportunities that are presenting themselves to you?
Are you sharing that which you have with the world?
If you are not sharing and have a lot to share, why aren't you?
Are you giving too much away and not taking care of yourself?
Are you having fun?
Are you hoarding your gifts?
Are you passing opportunities along to others?
Are you trying to break out of your shell?
